The African Association for Indigenous Spirituality (AAFIS) recently hosted a reintroduction session aimed at welcoming new members, reaffirming the association’s core mission, and presenting its Code of Conduct. The significant gathering was held at Trillion Cart Investments.
The session was attended by AAFIS executive leadership and core members from across South Africa and the SADC region. Proceedings emphasised the association’s distinct spiritual mandate, highlighting that AAFIS is not merely an organisation, but a movement committed to restoring the dignity of Traditional Healers and revitalising African Indigenous Spirituality (AIS).
Members were reminded that, in all their responsibilities and engagements with society, they carry the duty of protecting, preserving, and advancing the spiritual and cultural heritage of African Indigenous Spirituality. The presentation of the AAFIS Code of Conduct further stressed the importance of discipline, dignified conduct, unity, and self-respect among members.
The event also featured a detailed onboarding process for new members, together with a preview of upcoming workshop programmes to be facilitated in partnership with the Mzuvukile Slabbert Radebe Institute (MSIR). These workshops will focus on indigenous knowledge systems, spiritual practices, cultural preservation, and the transfer of indigenous wisdom to future generations.
In outlining its membership criteria, the association reaffirmed that membership is open to Traditional Health Practitioners, Traditionalists, Scholars, and Traditional Leaders. This collective foundation is intended to strengthen efforts to ensure that African Indigenous Spirituality is properly represented, protected, and preserved from misrepresentation and distortion.
During the session, longstanding members renewed their membership, while new members formally registered to join the association, marking a continued commitment towards the growth and unity of AAFIS and the broader African spiritual community.
