On Wednesday, September 25, 2025, the African Association for Indigenous Spirituality held an information sharing session in the Trillion Cart Investments Auditorium. Imboni Dr. uZwi-Lezwe Radebe, AAFIS Founder and Chairman, was joined by AAFIS Executive Structure members Abathwali bemithi, TRSH Abathandazeli, and Izangoma, as well as African Hidden Voices members.
The session being first since the Council was launched in December of 2024, it gathered individuals in different fields within the traditional healing and African Indigenous Spirituality sector to provide information regarding the direction AAFIS will be taking.
Uzenani Ndwandwa from Ezenzweni’s Traditional Health Practitioners association relayed an informative presentation of what the Traditional Health Practitioners (THP) seeks to implement moreover stating the negatives of colonial legislation which somewhat outlaws divination and traditional healing. Furthermore she stressed the importance of having AAFIS involved in the THP sector.
Lusanda Madikane, AAFIS’ office Co ordinator took on the podium with the council’s programmes going forward, which includes of educational programmes on matters of spirituality.
The African Centre of Excellence Learning Institution presented their contribution to A.A.F.I.S that being specialized educational programs focusing on African Indigenous Spirituality to help educate the masses on important matters of African Indigenous Spirituality moreover to provide knowledge, clarity and instill pride for the future generations on their spiritual identity.
African Hidden Voices as a research institution provided research taking the audiences through the status of Traditional Health Practitioners and Traditional Leaders in South Africa and shared the legal effects and challenges of the Traditional Healers Practitioners Act of (2007).
Gog’Julia Ngcobo, A.A.F.I.S deputy chairperson called on Traditional Healers to form part of A.A.F.I.S.
Mozambique’s A.A.F.I.S representative, Gog’Candida expressed the challenges they face as traditional healers in Mozambique where haed regulations hinder them from practicing their spirituality. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the establishment of A.A.F.I.S as she seed that it will help them through the turmoil they are faced with.
It is safe to say that A.AF.I.S is the beacon of hope as it is well equipped with resources and wisdom to tackle forces that diminish African indigenous spirituality.
