Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc in KZN

Heavy rains begun on Friday night April 8^th, 2022 and persisted through the weekend into the new week in parts of the KwaZulu Natal province resulting in widespread floods damaging infrastructure and claiming the lives of more than 250 people,  trucks and containers were also destroyed, sending businesses on a setback.

Community Halls have been opened to home victims and an unharmed resident has opened his home for those that have lost their own.

Adding on to the trauma, 12 crocodiles escaped from a farm near Tongaat, North of Durban into the Tongaat River, but only 9 were captured leaving 3 on the loose. “People from Umlazi risking their lives to cross a broken bridge heading to Jacobs in order to get transport town, as they fear losing their jobs”, reported EWN Reporter.  

 Lindiwe Jileka (59) in Hammersdale said her 37 year old daughter along with her 4 grandchildren died when their house collapsed. While families are struck by the loss of their loved ones, others are left worried and with no solution as they learn that various cemeteries have been damaged and skeletal remains have surfaced. “As Africans we need to take a look at the spiritual side of things, as if graves are being uprooted, it symbolizes the anger of the ancestors and that we need to appease them and find out what we have done to stir up the anger of the ancestors” said Umkhulu Nsingiza, a cultural expert, during an interview with Newsroom Afrika.

Weather reporters have urged people not to relax, as there are possibilities of continuous floods for the East Coast and adjacent interior mostly between Port St Johns and Durban at least until Wednesday midnight.
