Today, Iintombi zeKhaya hosted an inspiring and memorable event designed to unite young women from various spiritual centres across Gauteng, fostering a rich and supportive environment for all participants. The gathering’s primary goal was to create a sense of community and shared purpose among attendees, encouraging them to engage actively and raise awareness about pressing issues affecting their lives and communities. The organisers aimed not only to create a space for connection but also to showcase the diverse talents of the young women involved, providing opportunities for personal growth and learning.

At the heart of the event was Ms Chumani Tiso, the National Leader of Iintombi zeKhaya, who spoke passionately to the attendees about the importance of embracing spirituality as a guiding force in their lives. She shared valuable insights on the dangers of making choices from a place of desperation, stating, “Desperation should not take over your life. The decisions we make in life are very important. Some people make choices out of desperation.” Her words resonated deeply, reminding everyone that the choices we make define our paths and our futures.

The existence of TRSH within the African community represents a beacon of hope. This is illustrated through various initiatives and activities that encourage individuals to rebuild their lives while emphasising that past mistakes need not dictate their present or future. Ms Tiso reminded attendees that life’s journey is often unpredictable, and lacking support or spiritual guidance can lead to regrettable choices. She empathised, stating, “At times, we encounter young women who, out of desperation, have resorted to selling their bodies to financially support themselves and their families.” Instead of casting judgment, Ms Tiso advocated for extending a helping hand and offering prayers; this approach embodies the true essence of sisterhood.

During her address, she emphasised the significance of Ubuntu, which embodies humility and interconnectedness, among the members of Iintombi zeKhaya. Ms Tiso urged the young women present to aspire to be distinct from the average, encouraging them to let their spirituality shine through in every aspect of their lives. “The young women of TRSH should strive to be different,” she implored, reminding them that their beliefs and values should permeate their actions and interactions.

One of the key messages was that the power of simple gestures, whether a phone call, a kind word, or a supportive hug, can drastically change someone’s day or even life. Ms Tiso highlighted the need to move away from conflicts arising from jealousy or competition over romantic interests, advocating for the cultivation of genuine sisterhood. She passionately reminded everyone that through embracing one another and practising Ubuntu, they can truly harness their collective strength and empowerment.

Furthermore, participants were encouraged to embark on a journey of self-discovery to uncover their true worth. Learning to value oneself forms the foundation for making healthier choices in life. By prioritising peace, self-respect, and unity, the young women can protect themselves from harmful situations and grow into their fullest potential. The event was not just a gathering but a transformative experience aimed at fostering resilience, confidence, and a shared commitment to uplifting one another in the spirit of African Indigenous spirituality.
